78-Year-Old Man Attacked with Hatchet at Texas Home Depot

Manuel Vera, 78, was attacked by a stranger with a hatchet at a Home Depot in Hutto on August 14. He received multiple injuries, including a broken arm, a skull fracture, and a laceration over his eyebrow.

Vera recalled seeing the attacker staring at him with a 'crazed look' before turning away, but he didn't see the hatchet blows coming. Bauer, 41, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The attack left Vera with significant injuries, including two plates in his left arm, nine staples in his head, stitches for an ax wound to his right arm, and two pins in his broken finger. He is now recovering at home and will start physical therapy soon.
