80,000 Expected in Doonbeg for Amgen Irish Open Amid Trump Visit

The village of Doonbeg in West Clare is set to host the Amgen Irish Open golf tournament, which will attract an expected attendance of 80,000 people over four days. The event, running from Thursday to Sunday, coincides with a visit by US President Donald Trump.

General Manager of Trump Doonbeg, Joe Russell, acknowledged that protests were likely during the tournament but hoped they wouldn't disrupt the event. 'When you have a protest group... they are entitled to protest,' he said. 'As long as protests are in an orderly manner then nobody has any difficulty with that.'

Russell also highlighted the potential benefits of hosting the Irish Open, stating that it would reinforce the Trump Doonbeg brand and increase exposure for the resort. He noted that advanced bookings for next year were already full until the Ryder Cup, and that there was 'no such thing as bad PR.'

The tournament will be staffed by 500 volunteers, with Executive Head Chef Robbie Nolan expecting to serve between 10,000 to 12,000 meals at the five-star resort.
