A330 Takes Flight Over Boeing 767 on Cargo Routes
The Boeing 767 is slowly being replaced by the Airbus A330 as the preferred medium widebody freighter. Production of new 767s will end in 2027, and conversion stock is dwindling.
Airlines are favoring the A330 for its volume, modern systems, and conversion availability. FedEx and UPS still operate hundreds of 767 freighters, but new-build production will halt in 2027.
The A330-200Fs and A330-300P2Fs are gaining traction with Turkish Airlines, Hawaiian, and Amazon Air due to their payload efficiency and retrofit feasibility. The Airbus A330 fills a gap left by the 777-8F, which targets larger cargo missions.
