AAPL at $308: A Compounding Annuity Opportunity
Apple's stock price has dipped below $310, but some long-term holders see this as an attractive accumulation opportunity. The decline of 7.47% since Q3 earnings at $333 is creating a dislocation between Apple and the broader market.
The tech giant's installed base exceeds 2.5 billion active devices, making each product cycle a compounding annuity. Services clear around $30 billion a quarter at a 76.7% gross margin, but concerns include a one-time tariff refund tailwind in the June quarter and memory cost pressure heading into fall.
The bull case is anchored by the iPhone 17 lineup, which drove Q3 iPhone revenue to $54.25 billion, up from $44.58 billion a year earlier. Tim Cook described it as the 'strongest June quarter ever' with double-digit revenue growth across all segments.
The bear view is that Apple's P/E of 36 for mid-teens revenue growth makes it vulnerable to any wobble in the multiple, and the Q3 gross margin got a boost from tariff refunds that will not repeat. Management flagged 'significantly higher memory costs' ahead, and supplier leverage may be eroding.
However, Apple has repurchased $62.09 billion of stock in nine months, shrinking the float while patient investors deliberate. The consensus analyst target is $322.82, implying modest upside, and the forward P/E of 33 is elevated but reasonable against 28.7% quarterly earnings growth.
