Abandoned Boeing 747 Cargo Plane at Spanish Airport Faces Public Auction

A Boeing 747 cargo plane has been sitting at Valencia Airport in Spain for nearly two decades, and there's finally hope it will be removed. The aircraft, a Boeing 747-245F, was brought to Spain by businessman Isidoro Romero in 2008 as part of his airline Pronair's ambitious plans to transport goods internationally.

However, the business venture failed, and the plane was left abandoned at the airport due to unpaid debts. Aena, the company responsible for managing Spanish airports, has confirmed that the necessary steps are being taken towards a public auction to sell the aircraft.

The process involves first trying to contact the owner and have the outstanding debts settled. If that fails, the legal process continues until it can be legally presumed abandoned, allowing for a possible auction. In certain circumstances, if the aircraft cannot be preserved, its materials may be offered to educational or non-profit organisations with an aviation connection.

The plane was initially sold through court proceedings in 2013 for €2.1 million, but its original price and current worth are unknown. After 18 years exposed to the elements, its future remains uncertain, with options ranging from being sold for scrap to finding a new use or even flying again.
