Abel Steers Berkshire Toward Tech-Focused Portfolio
Greg Abel has taken control of Berkshire Hathaway's $360 billion investment portfolio following Warren Buffett's retirement on Dec. 31.
Abel's first quarter saw him shake up the portfolio, jettisoning 16 positions and introducing tech stocks to the mix.
The new boss's approach mirrors that of his predecessor: concentrating invested assets in top-performing shares.
As of Sept. 4, nearly 82% ($294 billion) of Berkshire Hathaway's invested assets were allocated to just 10 superstar stocks, led by Apple at $72.93 billion (20.2%), followed closely by American Express at $49.45 billion (13.7%).
Financial stocks remain a core component of the portfolio, with companies like Bank of America and Moody's making up close to 29% of Berkshire's invested assets.
