Accenture is set to take control of a technology joint venture with UniCredit, marking a significant shift in how one of Europe's major banking groups manages its digital infrastructure.

The move comes as part of a broader, multi-year partnership between the three companies that aims to modernize UniCredit's systems and support expansion across its 13 European markets.

Accenture will purchase IBM's majority holding in the joint venture responsible for operating a substantial share of UniCredit's technology backbone, which has handled critical IT operations for the bank since its establishment over a decade ago.

Under the new arrangement, Accenture will assume primary operational responsibility, while UniCredit retains a minority stake. IBM will step back from equity ownership but remain deeply involved as a technology supplier, delivering updated platforms such as IBM Z mainframe systems along with related software and advisory services.
