Accenture Takes Control of Key Banking Venture with IBM Partnership
Accenture has landed a major partnership with UniCredit to overhaul its technology infrastructure across Europe. The agreement, which still requires regulatory approvals, will see Accenture acquire IBM's majority stake in the joint venture supporting much of UniCredit's tech services.
Under the deal, IBM will continue providing UniCredit with upgraded platforms, software, and consulting services, while Accenture takes on a more prominent role in managing systems that support the bank's European operations. The partnership combines IBM's established enterprise systems with Accenture's consulting and implementation capabilities to modernize banking systems across 13 markets.
UniCredit aims to connect its core technology systems with modern cloud, data, and digital platforms to enable faster product launches and more consistent customer services. The bank plans to expand its use of cloud, data, and artificial intelligence capabilities through the multi-year program, which is expected to reduce fragmentation between older infrastructure and newer digital tools.
The partnership strengthens Accenture's position in large-scale banking transformation projects and adds UniCredit as another major reference client for complex modernization work across several markets. The agreement has already sent Accenture's stock price rising 1.74% to $166.13, with the company's shares trading near their daily high.
