Ackman Doubles Down on Big Tech Amid AI Fears
Bill Ackman, CEO of Pershing Square Capital, has taken a significant bet on Big Tech companies that have been overlooked by the market. He's buying up Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), and Meta (META) despite their underperformance in the AI era.
Ackman believes these companies are being underestimated due to concerns over the high costs of AI infrastructure investments, which he thinks will eventually translate into direct revenue. The 'Magnificent Seven', a group of Big Tech companies that have seen significant spending on AI, has seen its average return lag behind the S&P 500 and even semiconductor stocks.
Ackman cites Meta as an example of successful AI investment, where the refinement of its recommendation algorithms has led to increased ad impressions. Similarly, Alphabet's integration of its large language model (LLM) into search has seen explosive growth in search queries.
