Ackman's Fund Bets Big on Payment Networks with Visa, Mastercard Moves
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital Management has made significant investments in key players in the digital payments sector.
The firm acquired approximately 3.27 million shares of Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) valued at around $1.12 billion as of June 2026, making up about 5.4% to 5.76% of its portfolio.
This position ranks among the fund's most prominent investments, trailing only core holdings such as Uber, Brookfield, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Pershing Square also initiated a position in Mastercard involving around 2.12 million shares worth roughly $1.09 billion (about 5.3% of the portfolio) and added exposure to S&P Global valued near $1.06 billion.
The firm's team described these companies as 'capital-light toll-takers' that collect fees on transactions with limited balance-sheet risk, while benefiting from inflation and the continued shift toward electronic payments.
