Ackman's Pershing Square Adds Four Financial Stocks to Portfolio
Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital Management has made headlines by disclosing six new stock positions, including four financial stocks. The company's equity portfolio is relatively small compared to its peers, making each investment decision significant. One of the notable additions to the portfolio is 'capital-light toll takers' Visa (NYSE:V) and Mastercard (NYSE:MA). Ackman views these companies as ideal for their low-risk business model, where they earn fees from transactions without taking on credit risk themselves.
Another financial stock added to the portfolio is S&P Global (NYSE:SPGI), a data and analysis specialist with a long history of growth. The company has three dominant businesses: ratings, indexes, and Platts. Ackman notes that these businesses are inflation-resistant, making them attractive in times of economic uncertainty.
Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE) is the fourth financial stock added to the portfolio. As a leading operator of futures and options exchanges, ICE has a high-margin business model with a gold-standard contract for crude oil trading. The company also offers data services and mortgage technology, making it a diversified player in the market.
According to Ackman, each of these companies has posted significant growth over the years, with Mastercard nearly doubling its annual revenue from 2021 to 2025. Pershing Square's long-term approach to investing is reflected in its decision to add these stocks to the portfolio.
