Aerodrome Brings Tokenized Tech Stocks to Decentralized Exchange
Aerodrome has launched tokenized stocks for four of the world's biggest tech companies on Coinbase's Base network. The tokens, branded NVDAc, METAc, AAPLc, and GOOGLc, represent a one-to-one claim on actual shares held in regulated custody at Alpaca.
The liquidity pools for Nvidia, Meta, Apple, and Alphabet (Google) stocks were issued by Coinbase and launched on August 24. Combined onchain value at launch hit roughly $4.55 million. The Aerodrome governance token AERO climbed about 11.3% on the news, trading at approximately $0.5334 with around $94.3 million in volume.
The tokens use the B20 token standard, which is designed to handle corporate actions like dividends and stock splits onchain. This integration allows for composability with the broader DeFi ecosystem, enabling users to use tokenized stocks as collateral for loans or pair them with stablecoins in yield-generating strategies.
Aerodrome moved quickly to establish itself as the primary trading venue for these new assets. The Nvidia token pool (NVDAc) held roughly $957,000 in liquidity at launch, making it the deepest of the four. The choice to restrict access to non-US users and to custody assets under Abu Dhabi's regulatory regime reflects the regulatory complexity involved in tokenized equities.
The expectation is that additional tokenized stocks could follow in the coming weeks. This development marks a significant step towards bringing traditional stock trading into the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, with potential benefits for traders and investors worldwide.
