Afcom Orders Up to Four 777-8Fs in Major Capacity Boost
Afcom Holdings has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Boeing for up to four 777-8F freighters, marking a significant expansion in capacity at the Indian cargo airline.
The agreement was announced on September 2 and remains subject to a definitive purchase agreement. If completed, Afcom would become the first Indian airline to order the 777-8F.
The company plans to base the widebody aircraft in Chennai and use them for long-haul cargo routes, with Chairman Deepak Parasuraman stating that they intend to acquire four 777-8Fs. However, he noted that the final number could change during negotiations.
Afcom currently operates three converted Boeing 737-800 freighters, which are significantly smaller than the 777-8F. The new aircraft would give Afcom around five times the cargo capacity of its current fleet and allow for sectors exceeding 10 hours.
