Afcom Signs LOI for Up to Four 777-8 Freighters from Boeing

Afcom Holdings has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Boeing to purchase up to four 777-8F freighter aircraft. The LOI is subject to finalizing the definitive documentation between the two parties.

According to Afcom Chairperson Deepak Parasuraman, the number of aircraft could still change as the deal moves towards a formal agreement. However, he stated that 'the intent is to take four.'

The new widebody aircraft will be based in Chennai, supporting Afcom's push into the Far East and Africa markets. The carrier has existing customers interested in the widebody service, with strong demand across the Far East, Southeast Asia, India, and Africa corridor.

Afcom Cargo currently operates a fleet of three Boeing 737 freighters and is working towards five narrowbodies, up from three currently. The four 777s will sit alongside this narrowbody fleet, initially using older aircraft before being replaced or supplemented by new-build planes.
