Africa's aircraft fleet is expected to more than double by 2045, according to Boeing's latest Commercial Market Outlook for Africa. The continent will need nearly 1,200 new commercial aircraft over the next 20 years, with the total fleet growing from 755 to around 1,625.

The growth in passenger traffic is expected to be driven by an increasingly urban population, expanding middle class, and improvements in air connectivity between African countries. Boeing forecasts a 6% average annual rate of growth in passenger traffic through 2045, making Africa one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets.

Single-aisle aircraft will make up the largest share of future deliveries, with 870 expected to be delivered over the next two decades. Widebody aircraft demand is also expected to increase significantly, with a requirement for 240 new units primarily to support fleet modernization and long-haul connections between Africa and Europe, the Middle East, and other global markets.

The development of logistics and e-commerce will drive demand for freighter aircraft, with Boeing forecasting that Africa's cargo fleet will grow from around 60 to approximately 150 by 2045. The African market for maintenance, repair, overhaul, modifications, and digital solutions is expected to reach $140 billion over the forecast period.

Boeing estimates that the aviation sector will require around 75,000 new professionals by 2045, including 22,000 pilots, 25,000 technicians, and 28,000 cabin crew members. 'Africa's aviation market is entering a period of sustained growth driven by improving connectivity, expanding intraregional travel and deeper economic ties across the continent and with key global markets,' said Shahab Matin, Boeing managing director of Commercial Marketing.
