Africa's Aviation Industry Soars: Fleet Set to Double by 2045
Africa's aviation industry is set for significant growth over the next two decades, according to Boeing's Commercial Market Outlook. The region's commercial airplane fleet will more than double by 2045, with a projected increase from 755 to 1,625 aircraft.
The demand for air travel in Africa is expected to grow at a rate of nearly 6% annually through 2045, driven by the continent's young and increasingly urban population, growing middle class, and improving infrastructure. Of the new aircraft expected to be delivered, 870 will be single-aisle jets, while demand for wide-body aircraft will more than double, supporting fleet modernization and long-haul network growth.
Africa's cargo fleet is also expected to grow, with Boeing forecasting an increase from 60 to 150 freighters by 2045. This expansion of the continent's logistics, e-commerce, and high-value export markets will require a significant increase in skilled personnel, including pilots, technicians, and cabin crew.
