AFT Reaches Deal with Microsoft Over AI Privacy in Education
A new agreement has been reached between the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Microsoft regarding AI privacy. The deal aims to address concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in education, particularly with regards to data collection and student safety.
The Cyber Safety Review Board, created by executive order in 2021, released a report last year detailing lapses by Microsoft that led to a targeted Chinese hack on top U.S. government officials' email accounts, including those of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
As part of the agreement, Microsoft will implement measures to enhance AI privacy and security features for users, particularly in educational settings. This includes providing more transparency about data collection practices and improving safeguards against unauthorized access.
