AI Adoption Outpaces K-12 Readiness, Study Finds

A new study by IBM found that AI adoption in K-12 schools is outpacing their readiness to manage it. The research, conducted among over 2,000 educators and parents, showed that while 76% of middle school and 73% of high school classroom educators use AI at least weekly, only 20% have received extensive AI training.

The study also found that schools are making progress in adapting to AI, but few say they are doing so well. Parents want a larger role in how schools use AI, with 77% saying they want input on its use in their child's classroom.

IBM has launched the IBM K-12 AI leaders fellowship to help address this gap. The program will equip school leaders with practical knowledge and tools to guide responsible AI adoption.
