AI Agent Adoption Surges 300% Amid Measurable ROI
Business adoption of AI agents has seen a significant surge in recent years. According to the Agentic Enterprise Index report from Salesforce, the number of active AI agents in organizations has tripled since last year.
The report also found that employee use of AI agents has increased threefold as trust in these agents deepens. In addition, the average number of AI agents activated per organization has nearly tripled since 2025, with a significant decrease in creation time from 4 days to just 1.9 days.
The report analyzed data from over 400 real businesses that leverage AI agents to drive ROI and found that industries such as retail and travel are leading the way in adopting these agents. Consumer-facing industries like retail and travel have seen a significant surge in agent output, with a 60% increase in agent output from November 2025 to January 2026.
Regulated industries require greater AI agent sophistication, with Level 1-3 AI agents expected to read, coordinate, and synthesize, while Level 4-5 AI agents are able to write, analyze, and parse. The report highlighted three key learnings: agents can do more than you think, leverage seasonal surges with agents, and integrate agents into daily channels.
