AI Agents Take Center Stage in Cloud-Native Platforms, Gartner Says
The latest Magic Quadrant report from Gartner has revealed significant changes in the cloud-native application platform market. The report, released on August 3, 2026, highlights the increasing importance of AI agents and governance in cloud-native platforms.
Traditionally, cloud-native application platforms focused on infrastructure abstraction and standardized application runtimes. However, the new report emphasizes the need for integrated systems that combine these capabilities with curated configurations, governance guardrails, and built-in operational controls.
The vendors evaluated by Gartner include Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Red Hat, Alibaba Cloud, Oracle, Tencent Cloud, and others. The Leaders quadrant remains dominated by the large cloud providers, but there are changes in the Challengers and Niche Players categories.
