AI Agents Threaten Traditional Software Revenue Model
A prominent investment chief has warned that the seat-license model used by software companies like Salesforce and ServiceNow may face significant pressure due to the rise of AI agents.
Todd Ahlsten, chief investment officer at Parnassus Investments, stated on Bloomberg Television that 'the seat license model is just going to be under a lot of pressure.'
Ahlsten cited the rapid growth of AI platforms from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google's Gemini as evidence that companies may no longer need to purchase additional software licenses alongside new hires.
The traditional link between customer headcount and software revenue is being disrupted by AI agents, which enable organizations to scale operations without hiring more employees.
