AI Boom Set to Create Six-Figure Jobs for Non-Technical Workers
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes that the next six-figure boom could belong to electricians and plumbers, not just tech experts. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January this year, Huang said the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure will create a massive demand for skilled workers.
The growth of technology companies investing in data centers, advanced chips, and AI computing systems is expected to reach trillions of dollars by the end of the decade. However, building these facilities requires more than just software engineers and computer scientists.
Huang pointed out that the AI boom could create 'a lot of jobs' across hands-on industries like plumbing, electrical work, construction, and steelwork. He emphasized that workers do not need an advanced degree in computer science to benefit from AI growth, saying 'everybody should be able to make a great living.'
The comments reflect a broader shortage of skilled labor in the U.S., with a McKinsey report estimating that the country could need an additional 130,000 trained electricians, 240,000 construction laborers, and 150,000 construction supervisors between 2023 and 2030.
