Amazon and Walmart's AI chatbots have the capability to detect 'Made in USA' fraud, but they are not taking action against it. According to a report from Columbia's Center for Law and the Economy, these chatbots can find false 'Made in USA' claims, yet they continue to show them on their platforms. This is despite having access to data that would allow them to produce complete answers.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has warned both Amazon and Walmart about the issue, stating that they must monitor and take corrective action against third-party sellers who make false 'Made in USA' claims. However, Columbia's researchers found dozens of fraudulently-labeled products worth thousands of dollars on these platforms.

Almost four in five Americans prefer to buy U.S.-made products, according to polling conducted by Morning Consult for the Alliance for American Manufacturing. The organization notes that consumers should be able to shop anywhere online and trust that products are correctly labeled.
