AI-Driven Cyberattacks Soar 56%, Breaches Now Cost $6 Million
A new report from IBM reveals that AI-driven cyberattacks have increased by 56% over the past year, with more than one in four organizations reporting malicious incidents linked to artificial intelligence.
The average cost of a breach involving AI is $6.04 million, which is about $1 million more than breaches where AI was not a factor, according to IBM's 2026 Cost of a Data Breach Report.
Attackers are using generative AI to automate reconnaissance and craft convincing social-engineering content, which shortens the time required to find and exploit vulnerabilities and raises the potential financial impact on victims.
