A coalition of major tech and cybersecurity organizations, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services, is warning that AI-enabled cyberattacks could become more widespread and sophisticated within months. In an open letter signed by those companies and more than 100 other organizations, the group said hospitals, water treatment plants, power systems, internet infrastructure, and other critical services are particularly at risk.

The initiative argues that AI is making advanced hacking capabilities faster, cheaper, and more accessible, allowing attackers to exploit weaknesses with less time and expertise. It pointed to persistent vulnerabilities that can leave organizations exposed, including unpatched or outdated software, excessive system permissions, weak authentication, misconfigurations, and legacy technology.

A recent CrowdStrike report found AI-enabled attacks increased 89% in 2025 compared with the previous year. The letter calls on companies and governments to treat cybersecurity as an urgent priority as AI makes it easier for criminals and hostile groups to find and exploit digital weaknesses.
