Microsoft has admitted that its rapid expansion into artificial intelligence is making it harder to meet its climate targets. The company's Cloud Operations and Innovation head, Noelle Walsh, stated in a memo that growing AI workloads are complicating Microsoft's green promises.

Despite this challenge, Microsoft remains committed to reducing its impact on the environment. The company has made significant strides in data center water efficiency, boosting it by nearly 90%. Additionally, Microsoft has signed deals for up to 40 gigawatts of renewable energy worldwide.

In an effort to address local communities' concerns about new data centers, Microsoft has pledged not to ask for property tax breaks in development zones. The company will also pay its own utility costs to prevent higher bills for residents.
