AI Expert Sounds Alarm: 'We Might Be Running Out Of Time'
Bilal Chughtai, a former Google DeepMind researcher, has expressed extreme concern over the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI). In a recent post on X, he warned that 'we might be running out of time' to avoid the potential consequences of unchecked AI growth.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Chughtai left Google in July after working there for 18 months as a research engineer. He believes that AI companies may succeed in building superintelligent systems within the next few years that would far exceed human capabilities in every domain.
Chughtai emphasized the need for coordination among AI developers to pace their work and address emerging risks before they cause harm. He also advocated for greater transparency into AI development to prevent unacceptable levels of risk being imposed on society.
