AI Expert Warns of Potential Global Catastrophe
A former researcher at Google DeepMind has sounded the alarm on the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI), warning that it could potentially 'kill us all' if left unchecked.
Bilal Chughtai, a research engineer who recently resigned from Google DeepMind, expressed concern over the rapid development of superintelligent systems that far exceed human capabilities. He believes that such systems are possible in the next few years and could prove disastrous.
'I earnestly believe that AI has the potential to kill us all, and that we might be running out of time to avoid this outcome,' Bilal said in posts on X and LinkedIn.
This warning comes amidst growing concerns from other AI researchers and experts. Jacob Coxon, a researcher at Anthropic, recently resigned due to the potential dangers posed by AI. Dario Amodei, head of Anthropic, has called for more regulation of AI models and a slowing down of development.
