Over 100 major companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Oracle, and Microsoft, have signed an open letter warning governments and organizations globally to strengthen their cyber defenses before AI-powered attacks become harder to stop.

The letter argues that as AI models become more capable, attackers could use them to find weaknesses, launch attacks, and exploit systems much faster. It also states that many organizations are already exposed due to outdated software, poor configurations, weak authentication, excessive permissions, and years of accumulated technical debt.

The companies believe that AI can help turn the situation around by giving security teams better tools to find and fix vulnerabilities more quickly and at a lower cost. They urge organizations to make cybersecurity a priority, focus on fixing their most serious weaknesses, and check that fixes actually work.
