AI Trade Revives as Nvidia's Blockbuster Forecast Boosts Tech Stocks
Nvidia's blockbuster forecast sparked a surge in technology stocks globally after the chip giant predicted a 70% jump in revenue next fiscal year. The report, released on August 27, underscored unabated demand for AI computing and bolstered investor confidence in the AI trade.
The Nasdaq futures took the lead as tech-heavy stocks rallied, with Nvidia's premarket trading price rising 7.4%. Other chipmakers such as Micron Technology gained 4.2% and Marvell Technology rose 5.2%, while Broadcom added 1.6%. Data storage firms Sandisk and Western Digital also saw significant gains.
Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo Markets, noted that Nvidia's results validated the AI infrastructure trade but warned against indiscriminately chasing everything labeled AI.
The reports from Nvidia and other companies such as Salesforce and CrowdStrike calmed worries about advanced AI tools upending the traditional software industry. This boosted investor appetite for beaten-down software stocks, narrowing the gap with semiconductors seen as primary beneficiaries of the AI boom.
