Air India Deploys New Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on Germany Route
Air India is upgrading its services to Germany from September 2026 by deploying its latest three-class Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The move marks a significant upgrade from older widebody aircraft, with the new Dreamliners featuring a bespoke three-class layout and new cabin interiors.
The 787-9s will have 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy seats for a total of 296 passengers. The airline has been gradually rolling out these new aircraft on its long-haul routes since January 2026, with the Germany route being the next logical step.
The introduction of the 787-9 will bring a range of improvements to passengers, including fully flat Business Class suites, larger high-definition entertainment screens, and updated soft furnishings. In Premium Economy, passengers can expect Recaro PL3530 recliner seats with extra legroom, upgraded meals, and enhanced service elements.
The move is part of Air India's wider transformation plan, which includes network optimisation, ground experience upgrades, and operational reliability improvements. The airline aims to refresh or replace a substantial portion of its long-haul fleet over the medium term, with premium-heavy aircraft concentrated on routes where demand and yields justify the investment.
