Air India Unveils Non-Stop Flights to Toronto Amidst Growing Competition

Air India is set to launch its first non-stop flights from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in late October.

The airline will operate three weekly services using the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which has a capacity of 328 seats. The flights are expected to be non-stop, but it's unclear if this will be possible given Air India's usual route detours due to avoiding Pakistani and Iranian airspace, as well as Russian airspace en route to/from North America.

The new route is expected to target the local BOM-YYZ-BOM market, with 128,000 round-trip passengers traveling between June 2025 and May 2026. Air India will face competition from other airlines, including Etihad Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Saudia, which have significant traffic connections in the Middle East.

The launch of non-stop flights is a step forward for Air India, but it remains to be seen if the airline can maintain this route without significant detours. The introduction of non-stop flights will also increase competition on the Toronto-Mumbai route, potentially impacting prices and passenger demand.
