Air India's Boeing 787-9 Fleet Expansion Continues with New Aircraft Delivery
Air India is set to receive another Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Everett, Washington. The carrier shared a post on X showcasing the aircraft fresh from the factory floor. This development comes months after Air India received its first line-fit Boeing 787-9 in January.
The new aircraft features three cabin classes: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy, with bespoke interiors installed directly on Boeing's production line. Air India plans to receive six widebody aircraft in 2026, including Airbus A350-1000s and Boeing 787-9s. The airline is also undertaking a large-scale retrofit programme for its existing fleet.
Twenty-six of its legacy Boeing 787-8 aircraft are being progressively refurbished, with several expected to return to service in 2026 with upgraded cabins and the airline's new branding. By the end of 2026, nearly 60% of Air India's widebody fleet is expected to feature modern interiors.
