Air New Zealand Seeks Boeing Delivery Delay Amid Cost Pressures

Air New Zealand has entered into discussions with Boeing to delay deliveries of its Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline hopes this will ease cost pressures and allow for a smoother pathway through the coming years, following a significant pre-tax loss in 2026.

The flag carrier reported a NZD 336 million loss for the year, citing volatility and rising operating costs as key contributors to its financial woes. In an effort to rebuild capacity and balance its books, Air New Zealand is seeking to delay deliveries of new Boeing 787s from its future backlog.

Boeing contracts are not being removed from the order book as part of these rephasing efforts, with the airline still believing in the value of the aircraft. However, the delivery timing has become a key issue for Air New Zealand, which is looking to gain greater flexibility over aircraft payments and capital expenditure.
