Airbus Seeks Level Playing Field in Bangladesh Aircraft Deal
The European Union is urging Bangladesh to give Airbus an equal opportunity alongside Boeing in its aircraft procurement process. The EU wants transparency and decisions based on commercial merit, as it believes Airbus has a competitive offer that Dhaka should seriously consider.
EU Ambassador Michael Miller made the remarks after meeting with government officials, reiterating his previous calls for Airbus to be included in Biman's fleet modernization plans. Bangladesh had initially decided to purchase 10 Airbus aircraft in 2023 during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit, but later opted for Boeing amid a change of government and shifting commercial relations with the US.
The EU is concerned about the implications of this decision on trade and diplomatic relations between the two countries. The EU ambassador stressed that European companies should be able to compete fairly in Bangladesh's procurement process. He expressed hope that Airbus and Biman would soon discuss the matter further.
