Airlines Ditch First Class as Premium Seating Takes Center Stage
American Airlines has revamped its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, eliminating international first-class cabins to make way for premium seating. The carrier is expanding premium options as it follows a trend among U.S. airlines to cater to high-spending travelers.
The first retrofitted jet will enter commercial service on Wednesday between New York and Buenos Aires. Upgrades across the full fleet are scheduled for completion by 2027, increasing premium seating to 144 seats.
The revamped aircraft layout features 70 Flagship Suite business-class seats with privacy doors, 44 Premium Economy seats, and 30 Main Cabin Extra seats.
