Aker Solutions and Microsoft Unite to Boost Global Carbon Capture and Removal Projects
Aker Solutions and Microsoft have formed a partnership to improve the bankability of global carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon removal projects. The collaboration will bring together Aker Solutions' engineering and project delivery capabilities with Microsoft's expertise in digital technologies, artificial intelligence, carbon markets, and monitoring, reporting, and verification.
The partnership aims to reduce project risk and support investment decisions for CCS and CDR projects worldwide. Developers could gain a more integrated route from early feasibility studies through final investment decisions and project operations.
Aker Solutions CEO Kjetel Digre stated that the market maturity of carbon capture and removal projects depends on strong collaboration across the value chain. He added, 'Joining forces with Microsoft, we aim to help project developers navigate complexity, strengthen business cases, and support the next wave of CCS and CDR projects.'
The partnership will provide integrated engineering and execution support as individual CCS and CDR projects mature. This includes opportunities connected to carbon dioxide removal credits.
