An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 made an unscheduled landing in Chicago on August 16, 2026, after experiencing a loss of pressure in one of its engines.
The flight from Cleveland to Seattle was diverted to O'Hare International Airport approximately 40 miles southeast of the city after the crew detected a drop in oil pressure in the right engine at 34,000 feet. The affected engine is a CFM International LEAP-1B.
No one was injured during the incident, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 27C about 35 minutes after shutting down the engine in a controlled manner.
