Alibaba's AI Chalks Up Three-Year Payback, Older GPUs Still Going Strong
Nvidia's older AI chips are still going strong, according to Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
In its fiscal first-quarter earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Toby Xu revealed that GPUs purchased as far back as 2018 are still operating at full capacity across the company's AI infrastructure.
Xu cited the A100 purchased in 2020 and the V100 purchased in 2018, both of which are still running at full capacity. This suggests that demand has been strong enough to absorb legacy and new hardware alike.
