Alphabet and Amazon Pour Billions into AI Infrastructure
Alphabet and Amazon are investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The two tech giants plan to spend around $420 billion combined on AI-related projects, with Alphabet expecting to spend between $195 billion and $205 billion and Amazon planning to spend approximately $220 billion by 2026.
Nvidia and Broadcom are set to benefit from this investment as they provide key hardware components for AI computing. Nvidia's computing units are the industry standard, while Broadcom has partnered with Alphabet to develop custom AI chips, known as Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). TPUs offer superior cost-performance but require specific setup and may lock clients into using Alphabet's cloud computing ecosystem.
Micron and Sandisk are also poised to profit from the surge in memory prices. The shortage of memory chips is driving up prices, with Sandisk attributing a third of its revenue growth to increased output and two-thirds to rising prices. This trend may continue for several more years as Micron's management team predicts that the shortage will last until 2028.
The AI hyperscaler spending is expected to top $1 trillion next year, according to Nvidia, with Broadcom's custom AI semiconductor division projected to deliver over $100 billion in sales by 2026. With massive demand for AI computing and memory chips, these hardware companies are well-positioned to benefit from the investment.
