Alphabet Earnings Soar as Google Grapples with AI Data Dependencies
Alphabet's second-quarter earnings rose by 24% to $119.8 billion compared to the previous quarter, marking the twelfth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth.
The company's Google Services revenue increased by 15% to $94.5 billion, driven by growth in Google Search & other (17%), Google subscriptions, platforms, and devices (15%), and YouTube ads (13%).
Google Cloud revenue surged by 82% to $24.8 billion, with the majority of this growth attributed to Google Cloud Platform's enterprise AI Solutions and enterprise AI Infrastructure.
Alphabet's capital expenditures reached approximately $45 billion, offset by $39 billion in cash from operating activities. The company projects its capital expenditure spending for 2026 to increase between $195 billion and $205 billion, up from the previously projected range of $180 billion to $190 billion.
Google faces challenges as Reddit, which has a $60 million annual deal with Google, considers shutting off the flow of information to the company's AI engines. This data is crucial for training Google's large language models and serving information in AI Overviews.
