Alphabet Enters Aussie Bond Market with $5.5B Inaugural Issue
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has made its debut in Australia's kangaroo bond market by raising A$5.5 billion through four tranches with varying maturity dates.
The transaction was a significant entry for the Australian dollar-denominated debt market, attracting an order book of roughly A$18 billion from more than 200 investors. This highlights the demand among local and regional investors for high-grade corporate credit with longer-duration exposure.
Alphabet's decision to issue in Australian dollars provides another funding channel while allowing the company to assess whether pricing remains attractive after currency hedging. The company has a large AI-infrastructure investment program, and an A$5.5 billion bond represents only one component of its broader funding framework.
