Alphabet's Q2 numbers show it pulling ahead of Amazon in the AI infrastructure hierarchy. Alphabet's Google Cloud surged 82% year-over-year, compared to AWS's 37%. GOOG trades at a lower P/E of 17 compared to AMZN's 21.

The operating margin for Alphabet is nearly triple that of Amazon, at 34% versus 13.7%. Alphabet also gained 37% over the past year, while Amazon rose by just 6%. The company raised around $70 billion in equity and debt, doubling its long-term debt to $98 billion.

Alphabet's focus on a full-stack approach has paid off, with Gemini embedded in nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies. This move is seen as a key factor in Alphabet's success, but it comes at the cost of increased funding pressure. For Amazon, the company is spreading its bets across multiple areas, including AI infrastructure and satellite technology.

For investors looking to choose between these two tech giants, Alphabet's cash engine and Gemini distribution give it an edge. However, Amazon remains a diversified compounder with lower embedded expectations.
