Alphabet Replaces Verizon in Dow Jones Index, Boosts GOOGL Stock
Alphabet's inclusion in the Dow Jones Industrial Average has led to modest gains in after-hours trading for GOOGL stock. The company will replace Verizon in the index, effective before the June 29 market open. This move expands DJIA exposure to AI, cloud, advertising, and digital services.
Honeywell will remain in the index under its new name, Honeywell Technologies, following the completion of its spin-off of Honeywell Aerospace. The spun-off entity will not be included in the index.
GOOGL's diversified technology portfolio spans various sectors, making it a more representative communication services constituent in the DJIA. At the time of writing, GOOGL stock was up 1.1% in after-hours trading, while VZ was 0.45% down.
