Alphabet Secures Geothermal Deal for AI-Powered Infrastructure
Alphabet Inc., parent company of Google, has locked down a significant geothermal electricity deal that will power its AI infrastructure. The agreement involves Fervo Energy's Cape Station project in Utah, which will supply 396 megawatts of round-the-clock geothermal electricity. This is just the first step, as Alphabet can exercise an option to purchase an additional 600 megawatts, potentially bringing the total capacity to 996 megawatts.
The project is expected to come online in 2028, and Alphabet has until June 2030 to take advantage of the expansion option. Financial terms have not been disclosed. This investment fits into Alphabet's larger strategy of expanding its technical infrastructure, particularly data centers and networking.
