Alphabet Soars Ahead of IBM in AI Revenue Growth
Alphabet and International Business Machines are two tech giants in the artificial intelligence sector. While both companies have seen revenue growth, their trends differ significantly. Alphabet's revenue has been consistently growing over the past year, with a notable acceleration in its AI efforts.
In contrast, IBM's revenue has been more volatile, with a 1% increase in the second quarter compared to the previous year. The company reduced its full-year guidance from more than 5% year-over-year growth to between 4% and 5%. This slowdown is attributed to declining sales in consulting and hardware businesses.
Alphabet's success in AI can be seen in its Google Cloud business, which experienced 82% year-over-year growth in the second quarter. The division's backlog of customer orders rose to over half a trillion dollars compared to $462 billion in Q1. This indicates that Alphabet's solutions are resonating with clients, while IBM is failing to capture AI demand as effectively.
