Alphabet Stock Down 4% Amid AI Leadership Overhaul

Alphabet's stock price dropped by 4% on Wednesday afternoon trading to $361 after the company announced a leadership overhaul in its AI division. Despite this, the stock remains up 16% year-to-date and is close to reaching its 52-week high of $408.61.

The departure of several senior AI leaders, including Jeff Dean, who was the chief scientist at Google Brain, has raised concerns about a brain drain at the company. However, Alphabet will continue to be involved in Discovery Loop, a startup launched by the departing employees, as a founding investor and cloud partner.

Analysts are pointing out that Alphabet's valuation is still attractive, with a trailing P/E ratio of 17x, which is lower than its peers Meta Platforms (21x) and Microsoft (27x). The analyst consensus price target for GOOGL stock sits at $428.04, backed by strong buy and hold ratings.
