Alphabet Stocks Tumble as Investors Weigh AI Growth Against Rising Costs

Alphabet's (GOOGL) shares have been trading around $343 today, down 0.2% from its opening price near $346.

The stock has entered a more volatile consolidation phase as investors weigh strong growth rates in the AI business against rising capital expenditures.

The main driver of Alphabet's growth remains Google Cloud and enterprise AI, with cloud revenue jumping 82% to $24.8 billion and operating income increasing to $8.8 billion from $2.8 billion a year earlier.

However, this growth requires enormous investment, with capital expenditures reaching $44.9 billion in the second quarter and free cash flow turning negative at $5.9 billion.
