Alphabet Surges Ahead as Microsoft Lags in AI Arms Race
Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL), and Microsoft (MSFT) are among the leading hyperscalers in cloud computing, a crucial aspect of AI build-out. These companies operate the top cloud platforms, providing computing capacity for businesses to run AI workloads.
The trio is investing heavily in data centers, with estimated capital expenditures in the hundreds of billions this year and next. This investment will drive significant growth for these companies, but which one should investors buy?
Among the three, Alphabet stands out with its Google Cloud segment growing at an 82% year-over-year rate in Q2, accelerating from 63% in Q1. Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure are closer in their growth rates, but AWS' growth is rapidly accelerating while Azure's remains stagnant.
Microsoft is the cheapest of the three from a valuation standpoint, with an operating PE ratio that makes it an attractive buy. However, its slower growth rate compared to peers raises concerns about its market share in the AI arms race.
