Amazon Abandons Throne and Liberty, Lost Ark Publishing Deals
Amazon has ended its publishing deals for Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark, two major massively multiplayer online (MMO) games. The company will transfer the rights to NCSoft for Throne and Liberty by the end of 2026, while Smilegate will take over Lost Ark in early 2027.
The games' operation will continue unchanged, with regular updates leading up to the transition. However, some user data may be lost during the transfer process. For example, players of Lost Ark will not be able to retain their in-game mail, friends list memos, and group names, guild member nicknames and memos, and chat messages and history.
The move marks the end of Amazon's big MMO era, which has seen significant layoffs and a shift away from big-budget gaming. The company will now focus on other ventures, such as its partnership with Snoop Dogg for the game Courtroom Chaos Starring Snoop Dogg.
